Capt. Donald R. Carston Flies West

Don, 91, of Kansas City, MO passed away Dec. 15, 2017 at the Riverstone Retirement Center, where he has lived since 2015. Don was born Jan. 2, 1926 in Millville, MN to Adele and Walter Carsten. Don joined the Navy right out of high school. Don attended pilot school at St Mary’s College in Winona, MN. He later served proudly as a fighter pilot in the Marines during the Korean Conflict. In 1950 Don married Madonna Archer. After retirement from the military Don went to Aviation Pilot School and then started a career with TWA that lasted 30 years. Don enjoyed many great years with TWA.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Madonna; 3 daughters, Vickie, Bonita, and Jennifer; his brother, Sydney Carsten; a second wife, Vivian Jackalone; and special friend Margie Rupard.

Survivors include his sisters, Gloria Lewison and Marlene Larson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM Saturday January 6, 2018 at St. James Lutheran Church (1104 NE Vivion Rd; KC, MO 64118). In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Interim Hospice or St. James Lutheran Church.
